Thyroxine Sodium Tablets IP 125 mcg is a prescription medication used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone.  It contains 125 micrograms (mcg) of thyroxine sodium, a synthetic form of the natural thyroid hormone levothyroxine (T4), which is chemically identical to the hormone produced by the human thyroid gland.  The medication works by replacing the deficient thyroid hormone, helping to restore normal metabolic function, regulate energy levels, and relieve symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, and depression. 

Manufactured by companies like Macleods Pharmaceuticals (under the brand name Thyrox) and Abbott (Thyronorm), these tablets are available in bottle packs of 120 tablets and are intended for oral use only.  They are typically taken once daily on an empty stomach, preferably before breakfast, and must be used under strict medical supervision. Dose adjustments are made based on regular blood tests to monitor thyroid hormone levels. 

Fluoxymesterone 5 mg tablets are a prescription medication used primarily for replacement therapy in males with low testosterone (hypogonadism) and for palliative treatment of hormone-responsive metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women.  It is also known by brand names such as Halotestin and Ultandren. 

• Form & Strength: Available as 5 mg tablets, typically round, green, and scored, with a common imprint of "Upjohn" or "HALOTESTIN;5". 

• Active Ingredient: Fluoxymesterone, an androgenic and anabolic steroid. 

• Key Uses:

  • Treatment of hypogonadism in males.

  • Management of delayed puberty in boys (after confirmation of diagnosis).

  • Palliative therapy for advanced breast cancer in women. 

• Mechanism: Mimics natural testosterone, promoting protein anabolism, nitrogen retention, and development of male secondary sex characteristics. 

• Important Warnings:

  • Hepatotoxicity: Prolonged or high-dose use may cause liver damage, including cholestatic hepatitis, peliosis hepatis, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

  • Cardiac and Renal Risk: Can cause edema and worsen pre-existing heart, liver, or kidney disease.

  • Not for Athletic Performance: Not approved or safe for enhancing strength or muscle mass; misuse can lead to serious health risks.

  • Virilization in Women: May cause irreversible masculinizing effects (e.g., voice deepening, facial hair).

• Dosage: Typically administered in divided doses (e.g., 10–40 mg/day) due to short half-life (~9.2 hours). Treatment for breast cancer usually requires 1–3 months for objective response. 

• Inactive Ingredients: Include FD&C Yellow No. 5 (tartrazine), which may trigger allergic reactions in sensitive individuals (especially those with aspirin allergy).
