Eflornithine Hydrochloride Cream is a prescription topical medication used to reduce unwanted facial hair in women.  It contains 13.9% eflornithine hydrochloride as the active ingredient, which works by irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) in hair follicles.  This enzyme is essential for the production of polyamines, which support hair growth; blocking it slows down hair growth, making hair finer and less noticeable over time. 

The cream is applied twice daily to the face and chin areas, after hair removal, and should be rubbed in thoroughly.  It is not a depilatory and does not remove hair permanently—it must be used consistently to maintain results.  Improvement may be seen as early as 4–8 weeks, with optimal results after 24 weeks of treatment.  Hair growth typically returns to pretreatment levels within 8 weeks of stopping use. 

Common side effects include skin irritation, redness, dryness, itching, burning, acne, or stinging, especially in sensitive individuals.  It should not be used on broken, sunburned, or irritated skin, and contact with eyes, nose, or mouth should be avoided.
