Tofisopam 100 mg Tablet is a benzodiazepine medication primarily used for the treatment of anxiety and depression associated with depression.  It works by enhancing the action of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter in the brain that reduces abnormal nerve activity, thereby relieving anxiety, improving mood, and promoting mental calmness without causing significant sedation or muscle relaxation. 

• Key Benefits: Non-sedative anxiolytic action, effective in functional somatic disorders (e.g., IBS, fibromyalgia, cardiac neurosis), mood-stabilizing effects. 

• Common Side Effects: Nausea, gastric discomfort, loss of appetite, dry mouth, insomnia, headache — typically temporary and resolve on their own. 

• Dosage & Administration: Typically prescribed at 50–100 mg per day, divided into multiple doses, depending on the patient’s condition.  It should be taken as directed by a doctor and not stopped abruptly to avoid withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, nausea, or confusion.

• Important Warnings:

  • Not recommended for elderly patients due to reduced muscle tone and increased fall risk.

  • Avoid alcohol as it can increase drowsiness.

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if benefits outweigh risks; safety data is limited.
