Bupropion Hydrochloride Tablets IP are a pharmaceutical formulation of bupropion hydrochloride, a medication classified as an aminoketone, used primarily for treating major depressive disorder and aiding in smoking cessation.  It is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), or other common antidepressants. Its structure closely resembles diethylpropion and is related to phenylethylamines. The molecular formula is C₁₃H₁₈ClNO•HCl, with a molecular weight of 276.2. The drug is available in various strengths, including 75 mg and 100 mg, and is supplied as film-coated tablets. It is available in both immediate-release (IR) and extended-release (ER) forms, with the extended-release version (e.g., Wellbutrin XL) designed for once-daily dosing. 

The tablets are typically white or color-coded (e.g., yellow-gold for 75 mg, red for 100 mg) and are available in different packaging formats such as bottles and strips. The inactive ingredients vary by formulation but commonly include microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, copovidone, and others.  The extended-release (SR/ER) formulations use polymers like ethylcellulose or polyvinyl alcohol to ensure a controlled release of the drug over time
