Tofisopam 100 mg Tablet is a benzodiazepine-class medication primarily used for the treatment of depression and anxiety associated with depression.  It works by enhancing the activity of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a neurotransmitter that calms excessive nerve cell activity in the brain, thereby reducing tension, improving mood, and promoting mental calmness without causing significant sedation or muscle relaxation. 

Unlike traditional benzodiazepines, tofisopam has a non-sedative anxiolytic effect, making it suitable for patients who need anxiety relief without impaired alertness or cognitive function.  It is also effective in managing functional somatic disorders, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fibromyalgia, and cardiac neurosis, due to its ability to reduce autonomic hyperactivity and improve mood. 

The tablet is available under brand names like Toficalm 100 Tablet (manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd) and is prescribed in doses of 50–100 mg, taken 1–3 times daily, depending on the patient’s condition.  It should be taken as directed by a doctor, and not abruptly discontinued to avoid withdrawal symptoms like nausea, anxiety, and confusion.
