Amoxicillin Trihydrate Capsules IP 500 mg are a prescription antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.  The active ingredient, amoxicillin, is a semi-synthetic penicillin antibiotic effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. 

• Dosage: Each capsule contains 500 mg of amoxicillin trihydrate, equivalent to 500 mg of amoxicillin. 

• Formulation: Available as hard gelatin capsules, typically with a scarlet cap and buff body, imprinted with "AMOXY" on the cap and "500" on the body (manufacturer-specific). 

• Indications: Used for infections such as:

  • Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis, sinusitis)

  • Ear, nose, and throat infections (e.g., tonsillitis, otitis media)

  • Urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis, pyelonephritis)

  • Skin and soft tissue infections

  • Typhoid and paratyphoid fever

  • Helicobacter pylori eradication (in combination therapy)

  • Prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis

• Route of Administration: Oral; capsules should be swallowed whole with water.
